Our philosophy

InYoga's Teacher Training programs provide complete pathway of training with an integrated approach to yoga practice and philosophy, giving students the tools to make lasting changes in their lives. We draw from the timeless teachings of Ayurveda, Tantra, Hatha and Raja Yoga, and blend this traditional information with Western science and a modern understanding of the human body and energy system.

The modern world is full of stress, and most people will experience stress-related issues at some point in their lives. Many people are actively seeking ways to reduce stress and maintain optimum health that don't involve pills or prescriptions. This is why yoga has reached new heights of popularity in recent years - it's a well known fact that yoga is good for you!

The goal of yoga is simple: to create awareness in our bodies and in our minds that support a natural flow of energy and allow us to reach our fullest potential. We do this by:

  • Nurturing the physical body (our vehicle) through healthy movement practice (yoga asana), balanced breathing (pranayama), nutrition and hydration;
  • Harmonising our mind and body through movement & meditation;
  • Creating better relationships with ourself, others and our natural environment through yogic knowledge.

Our Teacher Training courses and curriculum are designed and facilitated by Nicole Walsh and Rod Galbraith, founders of InYoga. Nicole has been training yoga teachers for more than ten years, and together Nicole and Rod have personally trained and mentored hundreds of yoga teachers who are actively teaching yoga all over the world.  InYoga’s Teacher Training Programs continue to evolve each year, keeping up with international standards and ensuring their graduating students receive high quality training that is delivered with integrity.

Nicole and Rod are joined by a faculty of exceptionally qualified professionals, who are leaders in their chosen fields of yoga, meditation, anatomy and physiology, health and nutrition.

Foundational Vinyasa Teacher Training

200-hours

Whether you plan to teach yoga or want to develop your own personal practice, our Foundational Training is the first step towards enhancing your relationship to yoga, and making it an integral part of your life. We believe that yoga is for every body. Our focus is on creating healthy yoga practices that are empowering, rejuvenating and transformative, and you’ll be equipped with the skills to start your teaching journey with confidence and clarity. Completion of this course will give you the ability to create and teach a well rounded and cohesive yoga class with skill, integrity and compassion. You will be able to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200, and with Yoga Australia as a Provisional Member.

Our emphasis is on offering practical and experiential studies that are in rhythm with our individual life situations, so our courses are designed to fit people’s busy schedules. We are pleased to offer two formats for the 200-hour Foundational Training:

The Full Time course is a month-long immersion into yogic lifestyle and studies. Ideal for those who enjoy an accelerated learning environment, this four-week program is offered face-to-face with our highly experienced teacher trainers at our purpose-built training centre in Surry Hills.  We place great value on cultivating the teacher-student relationship during this formative training, and all of our trainees are personally guided by Nicole and Rod, and also receive the support of our studio teachers and assistants.  The Full Time course format requires pre-reading of two specially selected text books, and a short written assignment needs to be handed in after the course in order to receive a teacher training certificate.

The Part Time course is delivered over a three-month period, commencing with an eight-day residential retreat in a beautiful bushland setting, followed by seven weekend immersions. This option makes the course accessible to those who have non-negotiable career, study or family commitments; or who prefer to absorb and integrate the study material over a longer period of time.

Upon graduating from our 200-hour teacher training (or a 200-hour training with another school), we offer an accessible schedule of 50-hour modules to continue your training, deepen your knowledge and grow your skills. Ongoing study is essential to your development as a teacher, and our commitment is to equip you with everything you need to keep evolving in your teaching.

We’ve identified key areas that you will have likely touched upon in your 200-hour training, that are ripe for exploring with more depth and breadth. Around these key areas, we’ve created six individual 50-hour modules that offer a technical, practical and inspirational framework so that you may address your students’ needs in class, feel confident in the knowledge you are offering, live in the wisdom of yoga, and stay on top of your own personal growth and self-care.

Each of these modules is completely self-contained (ie there are no prerequisites other than a 200-hour training), as well as being completely integrated with all our other modules which, when combined, serve as a rich tapestry of practical tools, yogic wisdom and heartfelt inspiration. You may take the modules in any order, and over the period of 12, 18 or 24 months, or longer if you wish!

Each module is offered over five full days, and each one is held twice per year. Please check the website for dates and details, as some of them are offered as residential retreats and include accommodation and meals, while others are 'urban retreats', held in our studio.

Alignment, Assisting & Anatomy - 50 hr Module


This is an depth journey into the anatomical and energetic intelligence in your body, refine your practice, and discover how to use hands-on enhancements and assists to help you and your students find a deeper awareness while practicing asana.

A good foundation in Anatomy is essential for yoga teachers, and helpful for those dedicated yogis who want to have a deeper connection to their own practice.

Our focus is on keeping people safe, preventing injury and dealing with common anatomical and physiological issues that can often be present during yoga practice.  We'll tune in to the subtle nuances of  human biomechanics through the structural alignment of the musculoskeletal system, and the effect of yoga practice on the body through these key areas:

  • The building blocks of Sthira and Sukha - bones, joints, muscles, connective tissue
  • Physiology of the moving body - healthy biomechanics of strength, flexibility, stability
  • Spine - how we balance stability with mobility for healthy spinal movement
  • Lower body - feet, knees, hips, pelvis - how to attain stability, flexibility and healthy range in the lower body joints
  • Upper body - hands, wrists, forearms, elbows, shoulders - how to attain stability, flexibility and healthy range in the upper body joints

Building on knowledge of anatomical function, you'll be guided through an understanding of the energetic pathways of the body based on the Five Vayus (movements of energy). From this knowledge, you will discover primary alignment actions in yoga asana through personal practice and hands-on assisting.  A skilful hands-on assist is an exceptional teaching tool, and can be transformational and empowering to receive, if the approach is sincere, sensitive and respectful.  

Build a deeper awareness of yoga asana within your own body, and enjoy transferring this knowledge through a delicious exchange of hands-on assists with your fellow trainees; expand your repertoire and 'yogic toolkit', while gaining confidence whether you are practicing, assisting or teaching.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • Energetic and structural alignment - understand movements of energy through the body and how the key actions of any asana can be enhanced by tuning in to these energy pathways
  • The energetics of the moving body - understand how bodies are designed to move so that your practice becomes fluid and your assists become a potent teaching tool
  • How to take care of yourself in your own practice, and as the teacher - how to centre and stabilize your own body before supporting a student via a hands-on assist
  • The principles of assisting and adjusting - how to be clear about your intention, and adjust with clarity and purpose
  • How to cultivate trust and connection
  • Empathy - being able to give and receive, and when to ask for permission
  • How to see people’s bodies rather than just poses - techniques of observation so you know who, when and how to assist
  • The magic of touch - learn about different types of touch, how and when to use them
  • How to help support, stabilise, awaken and deepen your students’ practice through the different types of touch

The Art of Sequencing - 50 hr Module

Sequencing is both an art and a science, and through this course you’ll learn a variety of sequencing techniques that prepare bodies safely and intelligently as they progress from simple to complex asana. Through this practical course, you will unlock a toolkit of yoga class sequencing and teaching skills that will inspire you with confidence to take your teaching to the next level!

The Subtle Arts of Yoga

Meditation and the art of Mudra, Pranayama and Mantra cultivates a quality of attention, curiosity and wonder that can transform a yoga practice and your life.  

In this course you will learn the wisdom and skills to guide your student’s awareness through the 'koshas', or the layers of one's being from gross to subtle.   These layers of our being have an innate ability to find a healthy balance and harmony. Teacher Mentoring Program

INSPIRING THE TEACHER'S JOURNEY

This mentoring program is dedicated to supporting the evolution, progression and development of yoga teachers through empowering techniques, personal coaching and supportive sangha(community). 

The program is structured over Friday evenings (every 3rd week) across 3 months, you'll have time between sessions to incorporate and hone the skills you learn, and concludes with an urban retreat to refine all you have explored. 

Whether you are a long-time teacher or just beginning your yoga teaching journey, this course offers meaningful and actionable strategies to enhance your teaching, and you'll be guided progressively through the following areas:

  • Discover the art of leadership, holding & creating sacred space for your students.
  • Refine the skills in crafting your voice as a teacher, expand the art of language and verbal expression.
  • Using our heart-centred and alignment-focussed teaching methodology, learn how to captivate your students' attention while offering heartfelt inspiration and wisdom.
  • Take students on an embodied experience through their asana practice, through the practical application of our unique philosophy: "Live. Know. Love. A Life InYoga"
  • Understand the sacred alchemy of a yoga class experience from gross to subtle, and inner world to outer world, using the model of the Koshas.
  • Speak to the students' journey between the layers of their being - physical body, energy body, mind, emotions, intuition and bliss.
  • How to cultivate Dinacharya (daily rhythm) of personal practice and self-care that will be a potent and nourishing source of inspiration through your journey as a teacher.
