Our philosophy

InYoga's Teacher Training programs provide complete pathway of training with an integrated approach to yoga practice and philosophy, giving students the tools to make lasting changes in their lives. We draw from the timeless teachings of Ayurveda, Tantra, Hatha and Raja Yoga, and blend this traditional information with Western science and a modern understanding of the human body and energy system.

The modern world is full of stress, and most people will experience stress-related issues at some point in their lives. Many people are actively seeking ways to reduce stress and maintain optimum health that don't involve pills or prescriptions. This is why yoga has reached new heights of popularity in recent years - it's a well known fact that yoga is good for you!

The goal of yoga is simple: to create awareness in our bodies and in our minds that support a natural flow of energy and allow us to reach our fullest potential. We do this by:

  • Nurturing the physical body (our vehicle) through healthy movement practice (yoga asana), balanced breathing (pranayama), nutrition and hydration;
  • Harmonising our mind and body through movement & meditation;
  • Creating better relationships with ourself, others and our natural environment through yogic knowledge.

Yoga is a complete system of wellbeing, and InYoga's Teacher Training programs will inspire you to take charge of your own physical, mental and emotional health through simple yet powerful practices. We acknowledge the traditional roots of yoga, and present the knowledge in an accessible and practical way, allowing you to embark upon your own journey of personal growth.

More than just a teacher training course, this process encourages you to be a living example of health and vitality, and from this solid foundation you will be inspired to share your experiences with others.

Foundational Vinyasa Teacher Training

200-hours

Whether you plan to teach yoga or want to develop your own personal practice, our Foundational Training is the first step towards enhancing your relationship to yoga, and making it an integral part of your life. We believe that yoga is for every body. Our focus is on creating healthy yoga practices that are empowering, rejuvenating and transformative, and you’ll be equipped with the skills to start your teaching journey with confidence and clarity. Completion of this course will give you the ability to create and teach a well rounded and cohesive yoga class with skill, integrity and compassion. You will be able to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200, and with Yoga Australia as a Provisional Member.

Our emphasis is on offering practical and experiential studies that are in rhythm with our individual life situations, so our courses are designed to fit people’s busy schedules. We are pleased to offer two formats for the 200-hour Foundational Training:

The Full Time course is a month-long immersion into yogic lifestyle and studies. Ideal for those who enjoy an accelerated learning environment, this four-week program is offered face-to-face with our highly experienced teacher trainers at our purpose-built training centre in Surry Hills.  We place great value on cultivating the teacher-student relationship during this formative training, and all of our trainees are personally guided by Nicole and Rod, and also receive the support of our studio teachers and assistants.  The Full Time course format requires pre-reading of two specially selected text books, and a short written assignment needs to be handed in after the course in order to receive a teacher training certificate.

The Part Time course is delivered over a three-month period, commencing with an eight-day residential retreat in a beautiful bushland setting, followed by seven weekend immersions. This option makes the course accessible to those who have non-negotiable career, study or family commitments; or who prefer to absorb and integrate the study material over a longer period of time.

Anatomy, Alignment & Assisting

A good foundation in Anatomy is essential for yoga teachers to keep students safe, prevent injuries and deal with common anatomical and physiological dysfunctions that can often present in yoga classes.  Our anatomy expert Rachel Stanley will guide trainees towards a deeper understanding of the human body through the structural alignment of the musculoskeletal system and the effect of yoga practice on the body through these key areas:

  • The building blocks of Sthira and Sukha - bones, joints, muscles, connective tissue
  • Physiology of the moving body - strength, flexibility, stability
  • Spine - bones, disks, back and neck pain
  • Lower body - feet, knees, hips, pelvis - from dysfunction to healthy alignment
  • Upper body - hands, wrists, forearms, elbows, shoulders - from dysfunction to healthy alignment
  • The nature of injuries and how to apply the techniques of yoga asana to maintain optimum health

Nicole will guide you through an understanding of the energetic alignment of the body based on the Five Vayus (movements of energy). From this knowledge, you will discover how to apply primary alignment actions within yoga asana through hands-on assisting.  Build a deeper awareness of yoga asana through your own personal practice, hone your hands-on skills to enhance the practice of others, and gain greater confidence in the classroom whether you are practicing, assisting or teaching.

What you'll learn

  • How to cultivate trust and connection
  • The energetics of the moving body
  • Energetic and structural alignment

  • How to help support, stabilise, awaken and deepen your students’ practice
  • The magic of touch
  • Empathy - giving and receiving

The Subtle Arts - 50-hour Module

Mudra, pranayama, mantra, and meditation are instinctive awarenesses that cultivate a quality of attention, curiosity and wonder that can transform a yoga practice and your life.

The layers of our being have an innate ability to find a healthy balance and harmony. However our modern lives can disconnect our awareness from these natural instincts, creating blockages to natural health and wellbeing. As a teacher if we are aware of the body’s natural instincts and expressions in finding health and vitality, we can skillfully guide our students to use these as a vehicle to self-inquiry and reconnection.

As teachers, our role is to invoke a high level of self-inquiry so that students can become more conscious and connected while in the flow of a practice as a rehearsal for life.

In this course you will learn the language and tools to create a fluid experience through your student’s layers of awareness from gross to subtle, and discover how weaving these elements through a yoga class can allow students to become enlightened to the full potential of yoga.

What you'll learn

  • Discover mudra as an expression and tool of connection to essence, through the physical body and the practice of asana. Realise the potential of mudra to enhance your own teaching and communication skills.
  • Deepen your experience of the flow of prana through traditional and intuitive breath practices and kriyas, and the skills to teach them to your students.
  • Discover mantra as a tool of thought to bring harmony and focus to the mind.
  • Unlock your ability to use language as a guide to a healthy flow of emotion.
  • Become sensitive to the teaching power of shunya (silence or space).
  • Learn the language and presence to guide meditation instinctively and effortlessly.
  • Learn the secrets to create the space for a truly relaxing and restorative savasana.

Meditation Teacher Training with Dr Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine - 40-hour Module

You are invited to participate in this in-depth training with global leaders in the field of meditation, Dr Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine (USA). This training is specifically designed for yoga teachers to discover valuable tools and techniques to incorporate meditation into their yoga teaching, or use it as a stand alone modality to enhance the wellbeing of their students.

Meditation has become mainstream in our western culture, with millions of people practicing some form of meditation daily.  It's now well-known in the scientific and medical worlds that meditation is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, for people to feel less stressed and more connected to what's important in life.

"In the modern West, there is a revolution underway, an awakening, such that yoga and meditation have become completely mainstream.  The challenge now is to train enough meditation teachers to meet the need. It will be decades before there are enough skilled meditation teachers. Let's get to work."
~ Lorin Roche

What you'll learn

  • The science and practice of meditation - meditation is a completely natural and instinctive capacity that every human has - understanding the body's innate regulatory function of rest and renewal is key.
  • Recognizing spontaneity and rhythm - we all experience spontaneous meditative states, and a skilled meditation teacher will learn how to cooperate with their student's inner nature.
  • The subtle senses - develop the ability to recognise and utilise the five senses as gateways into meditation
  • Instinctive wisdom - recognising and honouring our powerful and innate wisdom for self-healing and self-evolving
  • The five elements - meditation teachers need to be intimate with the five elements (Tattvas) of earth, water, fire, air and ether, as revealed by the five senses.
  • Mandala of emotions - understand the full spectrum of emotions that make up a large part of everyone's meditative experience - one of the biggest challenges meditators face.
  • Language and listening skills - meditation teachers need a new language to guide students into their inner world, and also require skills for effective communication and listening to their students' experience.
  • Meditation techniques - there are literally thousands of techniques of meditation, and skill is required to find the right technique to suit individuals. The Radiance Sutras presents 112 different doorways into meditation to help you guide students to find what they love about meditation, and dive in.
  • Meditation secrets for women - as women make up around 70% of yoga and meditation students, learning to vary your approach for teaching meditation to women will open up doorways to a radical understanding of how to relate to female students.  Presented by Camille Maurine.
  • The opportunity to meditate daily with acclaimed meditation teachers and authors, Dr Lorin Roche and Camille Maurine
  • Daily morning asana practice to integrate asana and meditation
